In order to provide normal continuity to the exercise foreigner’s civil rights and compliance of civil, social, labor and commercial relationships, on April 1, 2020, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, through Decree N°34, extends the validity of Chilean I.D. card for foreigners.
In order to qualify for this benefit, foreign residents must have a regular migratory status in the country, meaning that they must have filed a change of status or resident visa extension or permanent residence. This circumstance must be evidenced before other individuals or before public offices, by means of the receipts issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Interior and Public Security or Provincial Governance.
The extension of Chilean I.D. card for foreigners will operate as follows:
- Until December 31, 2020 those Chilean I.D. cards for foreigners which expired during the year 2019.
- For a one year period as of the date of expiration of Chilean I.D. card for foreigners having expired or expiring during the year 2020.
The Chilean I.D. card for foreigners which validity is extended by virtue of the abovementioned decree, shall be used to prove the identity of the foreigner in Chilean territory and may be used by their holders in proceedings, procedures and dealings which require the exhibition of this document.
